Director James Marsh described the production as “well produced, well organised, and we never got too restricted in terms of scooting through things too quickly,” revealing a logistical challenge despite the team’s meticulous planning.

Rev’s (Rafe Spall) residence, nestled in NW6, London – a prime Zone 2 location encompassing Kilburn, West Hampstead, Queen’s Park and Brondesbury – reflects his status. Ryan Walker’s lavish property, situated in Ladbroke Grove, near Portobello Road Market, showcased a ‘high ceilings, lavish open-plan living space and a kitchen you've definitely saved on your Pinterest board’ – a far cry from the usual MI6 digs. The Cabinet Office scenes were cleverly filmed at the Old Royal Naval College, while Prime Minister’s Office and No.10 shots utilized Harefield House and John Adam Street, respectively.
Mi6 headquarters: a brutalist illusion
The iconic MI6 headquarters, typically shrouded in secrecy, was recreated within a 1960s brutalist building in Hayes, augmented with green screens to simulate the Thames views. The team utilized interior designers and set decorators to build a convincing ‘SIS headquarters,’ complete with ‘tiger trap doors.’
European escapes: malta’s charm and challenges
Beyond the UK, the series embraced the sun-drenched shores of Malta, filming in Valletta, Birgu, Isla and Dingli. Despite the logistical hurdles – including a “fight” to stay on budget and overcome the challenging “light” – the production team secured a stunning villa near the coastal cliffs of Dingli, complete with an infinity pool. Production costs were affected by the island's unique challenges, but the location’s beauty was undeniably worth the effort.
