Virgin island cast: a year on – where are the contestants now?

A year after the explosive debut of Virgin Island, the reality TV experiment that divided viewers and sparked intense debate, we’re catching up with the original cast. The show, which delved into the raw experiences of twelve adult virgins navigating sex, insecurity, and the dynamics of a remote island, is set to return with a reunion special.

From island shock to real life: what happened to the cast?

The initial response to Virgin Island was fiercely divided, with many viewers finding the premise ‘creepy’ and the format ‘excruciating.’ However, the show clearly had an impact, prompting a wave of introspection amongst the participants and viewers alike. Let’s take a look at what these individuals have been up to since stepping off the island.

Dave view

Dave view's journey of self-discovery

Dave, who bravely became the first contestant to lose his virginity on the show, reflected on the experience, stating it was ‘the biggest thing’ about his time on Virgin Island. He described feeling ‘in a really dark room’ but now speaks of finding a ‘tiny little torch’ and a ‘light switch’ – a gradual process of building confidence. He’s since entered a relationship, acknowledging the show’s role in facilitating connections he wouldn’t have otherwise found. ‘I was desperate before the show and I was getting in any relationship I could before the show,’ he admitted. ‘I've learnt to not force it with someone I'm not happy with.’

Jason

Jason's confidence boost – and a new perspective

Jason, who initially struggled with even a simple hand graze, surprised many by stripping off in front of the group, initially teasing a ‘sex god’ persona. Despite this, he credited the show with fostering his self-assurance. ‘My life now, I am more confident,’ he said. ‘I can hold a conversation. When the time does come to do the deed I won't be scared.’ Jason is now focusing on dating, albeit tentatively, and has embraced body positivity, sporting short sleeves and, as he put it, ‘loving myself now.’

Taylor's revelation and finding her voice

One of the most significant revelations came from Taylor, who unexpectedly realized she was gay during her time on the island. Initially identifying as bisexual, she found liberation through working with a female coach. Now, she’s embracing her identity and hopes to one day experience dating and “have a nice time that way.” She’s still a virgin, but expressed a strong desire to ‘pop this cherry’ in the future.

Emma's adventures beyond the island

Emma, initially dubbed the ‘DUFF,’ has traded food service for a life of travel and exploration. Her social media is now a vibrant tapestry of beaches, food trips, and a newfound zest for life. ‘Not missing out on wearing a skirt because my legs are too long,’ she captioned a recent post, capturing her adventurous spirit.

Viraj: reclaiming his story

Viraj, who entered the show following a difficult rejection, has been focusing on his fitness and traveling since filming concluded. He addressed negative comments on social media, stating he joined the show for ‘personal reasons’ – to build confidence and social skills – and that the experience fundamentally changed him. ‘I feel like I can open myself up very well and that growth, whatever that was that I did on the island, it changed me,’ he shared.

Ben’s reflection on vulnerability

Ben, the oldest contestant, used the show as a platform to confront past bullying experiences. He thanked Channel 4 for handling the sensitive topic with care, emphasizing the importance of destigmatizing conversations around adulthood and virginity. ‘If this show helps to clear even a fraction of the stigma associated with being an adult virgin, it will have all been worth it,’ he stated.

Tom’s creative success

Drama student Tom has since graduated from both Exeter and Manchester Universities and recently celebrated the success of his short screenplay, ‘Plenty of Fish,’ which earned a Gold List commendation. A truly impressive turnaround.

Holly's new chapter

Dog groomer Holly, 23 at the time of filming, has exciting news: she’s expecting a baby! Sharing a photo of a babygrow with
