Masterchef returns tonight for season 22

The wait is over as the BBC premieres the 22nd season of its hit cooking competition Masterchef tonight.

New hosts and judges set the stage

Anna Haugh and Grace Dent take the reins as presenters, joined by a rotating panel of esteemed guest judges from the culinary world, including tough restaurant critics and former winners.

After 22 seasons, the formula remains tantalizing - amateur cooks face off in a battle of creativity and skill to win one of four coveted aprons.

Tonight's episode introduces the first six hopefuls vying for their spot in the competition.

Season 22 will run for seven weeks, with new episodes airing Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at 9pm GMT on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
