“Gingham is inherently seasonless to my team and I,” says designer Amber Lewis, who uses it the same way one might a stripe or floral. (Her upcoming book, Interiors, is full of gingham inspiration.) She’s noticed an uptick in gingham interiors lately, particularly when it’s used to complement other prints. Her advice for layering is to review the scale and color within the context of the rest of your space. “Do you want to layer the pattern with a neutral palette or use it as a pop?” (Upholstery, she explains, is a great way to achieve this.) “If that's still too much commitment you can utilize the pattern in accessories such as a tablecloth, bedspread, or throw pillow,” she says.
